Sculptor Zbyněk Sekal belongs to the generation of modernist Central European artists from the 1960s developing since the end of World War II, when he was influenced by Surrealism. But he did not align himself with any particular movement, tendency or group and remained strongly independent throughout his career. He soon became one of the most interesting Czech artists of the 1950s and 1960s. From 1970 he lived in Vienna where his work went though further remarkable development. The exhibition in the Olomouc Museum of Art will present Sekals works from all creative periods in thematic sections – sculptures, objects (cases), assembled paintings, drawings, collages and photographs. We will also show the originals of cover designs and book designs which place Sekal among the most important figures on the Czech scene.
