Third Mind. Jiří Kovanda and the (Im)possibility of Collaboration

October 5 2016 – January 15 2017, Start and end dates
The National Gallery in Prague (Trade Fair Palace, Mezannine)

Exhibiting artists
Jiří Kovanda

Jiří Kovanda exhibition at the National Gallery in Prague focuses on aspects of cooperation in his arts. It resents works (installations, sculptures, performances), which were created together and in dialogue with other artists (Edith Jeřábková, Jiří David, Markéta Othová, Katarína Hládeková, Stanislava Karbušická, Richard Nikl, Denisa Lehocká, Eva Koťátková, Barbora Kleinhamplová, Zbyněk Baladrán, Vladimír Skrepl, Tomáš Svoboda, Silvina Arismendi, Nina Beier, Fernanda Gomez, Guillaume Désanges), eventually with the audience.

The exhibition explores the conditions of a joint work and postulates the issues of autonomy and identity of a work of art as a collective effort. In this context, it also pursues the authorship of a work of art and the possibility of shared morphology (écriture). The exhibition lays emphasis on the performative character of contemporary artistic production. The mezzanine recess in the Trade Fair Palace will therefore be transformed to a space of mutually permeating stage and auditorium, offering a program closely linked with Kovanda’s work, but it will also pay attention to more general issues related to collaboration in art.
