The ferro-concrete forts lining the sea coast from Norway to Spain are unique historical evidence. The defensive belt of structures built against the invasion of the Allies, with bunkers, their openings for guns, and observation points stops in time the war strategy of the Third Reich. Nature altered the former monstrous structure and made it hard to recognize. Against the background of concrete monoliths, the thoughts of the French philosopher Paul Virilis about military space, violence and typology of fortresses get interlinked with the mythic character of the present-day ruins, symbolically “departing” into the sea.
