Illuminated Cities – Illuminated ArtOctober 17 2004 – January 30 2005, Start and end dates
The exhibition brought important works of light art from the 1920s and 1960s to contemporary interventions in public space. The accompanying catalog and symposium also allowed the view from a psychological, technical, sociological and art historical perspective on light art and artificial light in urban areas. The program was completed with nightly sojourns in the Ruhr, to the landmarks of light art and the illuminations of brownfields. The curators Christoph Brockhaus and Katja Assmann developed city light - Light as a plea for the qualification of lighting design in public space, with the aim to promote dialogue between the city of light-determining disciplines.
